After her apprenticeship as a banker at WestLB AG in Dortmund, she studied part-time at the Bankakademie in Frankfurt (since 2007 merger of the Bankakademie and the Hochschule für Bankwirtschaft to form the Frankfurt School of Finance & Management), graduating as Bankfachwirtin IHK – “Bachelor Professional of Banking” – (best examination result in NRW Bankfachwirt/in in the examination period).
At WestLB in Dortmund, she started her career as a loan officer for medium-sized companies and large corporations and managed loan commitments of € 0.5 million to € 50 million, also involving federal, state and KfW Bank subsidies. As an analyst for loans in the corporate segment at WestLB in Dortmund, she was primarily responsible for demanding credit commitments in terms of complexity, risk content and volume. Her area of responsibility also included the credit-side management of crisis exposures.
Sandra Schmidt then continued her professional career as Senior Analyst in the Corporate and Network Credit Division at WestLB in Düsseldorf. In the direct business with corporate clients as well as in the joint credit business with savings banks (network) she looked after clients with credit volumes of € 5 million up to € 100 million. Her main tasks included the past and future-oriented creditworthiness analysis of the clients she looked after (including cash flow analysis) as well as the preparation of complex financing concepts. As a Senior Risk Analyst (“Director”), her portfolio included not only sophisticated corporate loans but also acquisition financing for medium-sized companies (participation in the structuring of acquisition financing and central contact person for this segment within the “Credit Analysis & Decision – Verbund” division).
After her parental leave, Sandra Schmidt continued her career as Senior Corporate Analyst (“Prokuristin”) at HSBC Trinkaus & Burkhardt AG in Hanover. There she was responsible, among other things, for the preparation of sophisticated corporate analyses of medium-sized companies as well as major international groups in English, the assessment of creditworthiness (including counterparty risk in the derivative interest and foreign exchange area) as well as the preparation and approval of loan applications in English.
Since July 2017, she has been working for ProGemma GmbH as commercial manager (“Prokuristin”), responsible for the areas of finance, controlling and risk management as well as for the creation of personnel development concepts and the establishment of in-house training academies (Blended learning/E-learning specialist).
